General characteristics:

Heartwood/sapwood: distinct;

Thickness of sapwood: 4.0cm to 10.0cm;

Heartwood color: reddish brown (2.5YR 5/4 to 2.5YR 4/4);

Sapwood color: very pale brown (10YR 7/3) with dark lines;

Growth rings: distinct;

Grain: irregular;

Texture: medium;

Tangencial figure: in very prominent longitudinal bands due to growth rings;

Radial figure: in narrow longitudinal bands caused by growth rings;

Luster: medium;

Odor: indistinct;

Resistance to manual cross-cutting: hard.

 

Preservation:

The heartwood is untreatable with creosote (oil-borne) or with CCA (water-borne).

 

Kiln drying:

Very rapid (3.0 days) showing no significant defects. Schedule used: MILD.

 

Workability/end-uses:

End-Uses: Heavy construction, light construction, boats, turnery, furniture and interior trim, household utensils, toys and paneling.
